What is Manual Physical Therapy?
Orthopedic manual physical therapy is any ‘hands-on’ physical treatment primarily used by physical therapists to treat different forms of Musculoskeletal pain and disability. Such treatments can cater to stiff muscles and discomfort to improve tissue mobility and functions, mainly in regions like the head, neck, back, arms and legs. It includes processes like stretching, kneading and manipulation of muscles, joint mobilization and manipulation.
Manual therapy can be used to diagnose and treat a number of recurring symptoms in patients. Some physical therapists recommend a blend of manual therapy, exercise and rehabilitation to find the quickest and most effective route to recovery. Aside from modulating pain and discomfort, it also induces relaxation to treat underlying issues such as repairing tissue damage and reducing muscle inflammation.
